During war, there are no good or bad decisions there is only survival. Try to protect everybody from your shelter or sacrifice some of them for longer-term survival. Make life-and-death decisions driven by your conscience. At night, take one of your civilians on a mission to scavenge through a set of unique locations for items that will help you stay alive. During the day snipers outside stop you from leaving your refuge, so you need to focus on maintaining your hideout: crafting, trading and taking care of your survivors. The pace of This War of Mine is imposed by the day and night cycle. The game provides an experience of war seen from an entirely new angle. As in the original game most of the parameters are randomized for each session.In This War Of Mine you do not play as an elite soldier, rather a group of civilians trying to survive in a besieged city struggling with lack of food, medicine and constant danger from snipers and hostile scavengers. Right from the start there is a campaign with a father and a daughter, but others can be unlocked later on. The introduction of these new characters also leads to new types of campaigns and missions including children. They also have often less demands than an adult would in the same situation. Children consume less food than adults and if they are not sad they will start to play, for instance by drawing on the walls or with toys that can be constructed as a new type of item. They can also learn new activities from adults. Children are able to perform small tasks such as gathering meat from traps or putting wood in a heater. Children are often left alone at night and require attention and comfort when the adults return and they lead to new considerations for taking decisions. They also cannot participate in many activities such as cooking, guarding or constructing items. They are different from adults as they cannot venture outside at night. The largest addition for this version is the introduction of children as playable characters. At a later time the content was also made available as DLC for the PC version. It introduces content that was previously exclusive to This War of Mine: The Little Ones, a standalone console version of the game. The Little Ones is DLC for the game This War of Mine.
